Television

National operators offer similar television services.

Each municipality has an exclusive agreement with one of these providers, so at least for cable TV you will have to subscribe to the approved provider. Each provider offers analogue or digital television.

All operators offer French and Dutch national channels as well as French national channels.

Only Voo stands out with its premium BeTV service.

A limited number of foreign channels are available in Belgium. We advise you to consult the "Satellite Television" section to find out about the possibilities of connecting via satellite.

What to choose

Although most operators offer packages (via cable TV or the telephone line) that include television, telephone and Internet, consumers are free to subscribe to different operators for each of these services. Packages are an attractive solution from a financial point of view, but are not always the best solution in practice. When making your choice, keep the following points in mind:

  • The availability of cable services depends on where you live,
  • House alarms connected to a telephone surveillance system only work if they are connected to fixed telephone lines (Belgacom only),
  • You don't necessarily need a fixed telephone line to access the Internet,
  • Not all television providers offer access to the same channels.

Scarlet also offers traditional telephone lines, DSL Internet connection and a subscription to Belgacom TV. However, you should check the availability of Scarlet depending on your address.

BeTV

BeTV gives access to exclusive and themed channels broadcasting the latest films and series as well as most sports championships, football (Champions League, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc.), tennis, golf, basketball, etc.

How do I subscribe?

All operators offer subscription systems online, in their shops or via distributors. All the necessary addresses and references are included below.

To ensure that all your connections are activated when you move in, start the subscription process at least 4 weeks in advance. The length of the subscription or connection procedures will depend on the services chosen and the equipment required.

Satellite TV

Satellite television is an alternative for foreign nationals. In Belgium, you can use a satellite dish to point towards all the satellites in Europe. You can subscribe to the following services: Canalsat/Canal+(France), Canal Digitaal (Netherlands), Digital+ (Spain), Digiturk (Turkey), NC+ (Poland), Nova (Bulgaria), ORF (Austria), SkyDeutschland (Germany), Sky Italy (Italy), Sky UK (United Kingdom), SRG SSR (Switzerland), Tivusat (Italy), TNTSAT (France), TVR(Romania), etc. The flat antenna-Discreet and accessible. Satellite TV installations are often criticised for their lack of aesthetic appeal. In fact, some co-owners' associations don't hesitate to ban them, thereby breaching the regulations on satellite dishes. In response to this problem, there are now flat antennas that are very small and offer the same performance as a traditional satellite dish.
