The marriage can be celebrated in Belgium by the Civil Status Officer of the residence of one of the future spouses, as soon as the future spouses have been resident in Belgium for more than three months. This residence of more than three months can be proven by all possible means, the simplest being the declaration of arrival.
Foreigners must meet the marriage conditions of the country of their nationality, and Belgium adds to these conditions so-called "public order" conditions, such as the consent of both spouses, the absence of certain family ties and the prohibition of bigamy.
It should be noted that since June 2003, marriage between two people of the same sex is allowed in Belgium, regardless of their nationality.
