In Belgium, the civil status of inhabitants is the responsibility of the Civil Status Officers, who are divided into municipal administrations. It is therefore at the commune that the various civil status records are drawn up or registered, whether for births, deaths, marriages, etc.
It is also the municipal administration that issues the various documents or extracts of documents, on request at the counters or by electronic means (this possibility depends on each municipality and can be checked by visiting the municipality's website).
